Quickbooks errors during QBO/IIF/QBJ import

QuickBooks is unable to verify the Financial Institution Information for this download. Please try again later.

QuickBooks has to be no older than three years to import .QBO files. Once QuickBooks is older than three years (usually the end of May is the cut-off date), QuickBooks does not import .QBO files anymore.
If your QuickBooks is good, but the file is not importing, then your QBO file is not correct. Use the ProperConvert app to convert it to the correct QBO file.
If you cannot update Quickbooks, you have the option to convert to the IIF format instead of the QBO (web connect) format.

How to fix "QuickBooks is unable to verify the financial institution"

What does the error message means and how to fix the issue

Why would QuickBooks give such a message? Possible reasons are below:

  • if your QuickBooks copy is three years old, it will not import the .QBO files. You must either update to the newer version or use the ProperConvert app to convert to IIF, and import it as an IIF file instead of QBO.
  • The bank or credit card company is no longer “allowed” by QuickBooks. Use the ProperConvert app to make your QBO file from an “allowed” financial institution.
  • The ".QBO" file was not created correctly or “not ready” for your QuickBooks version. Banks and credit card companies create the ".QBO" files differently. QBO files are extended OFX files (QBO is also called QuickBooks OFX), but there are some small but important differences between QBO and OFX files. QBO file may follow OFX specifications but is not acceptable for QuickBooks. In addition, different QuickBooks versions have slightly different requirements for “good” QBO files. Use the ProperConvert app to make your QBO file ready for your QuickBooks version.
  • The ".QBO" file is from the US bank, and you are trying to import it on QuickBooks Canadian edition. Or your ".QBO" file is from a Canadian bank and you are trying to import it into the QuickBooks US edition. Use the ProperConvert app to make your ".QBO" file importable into QuickBooks.
  • The ".QBO" file was created from CSV or Excel file by third-party software. Use the ProperConvert app to recreate QBO (Web Connect) files importable by QuickBooks.
